Chiropractic Treatment Available to Injured Workers
Thursday, April 21, 2016

St. John’s, NL The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between WorkplaceNL and chiropractors in the province has expired, and many Chiropractors have formally terminated their agreement with WorkplaceNL, effective April 23, 2016. As a result, there is some confusion around continuity of chiropractic care for injured workers.

WorkplaceNL confirms that injured workers who are entitled to health care benefits from WorkplaceNL as a result of a workplace injury can receive care from a chiropractor. WorkplaceNL will continue to pay chiropractors directly for approved services at current rates.

“The health and recovery of our clients is important to us,” said Leslie Galway, CEO, WorkplaceNL. “I’d like to assure injured workers that we will continue to pay reasonable rates for approved chiropractic care as it relates to their workplace injury. We will work with our clients to ensure they are receiving appropriate medical care.”

WorkplaceNL wishes to advise injured workers that processes are in place to allow services to continue as a result of chiropractors terminating the agreement. The Workplace, Health, Safety and Compensation Act prohibits a chiropractor from charging injured workers directly for approved chiropractic services. If an injured worker has been billed directly for chiropractic services, they are asked to contact WorkplaceNL to make suitable arrangements.

Injured workers are asked to contact their Case Manager if their chiropractor will no longer provide services. WorkplaceNL will work with the injured worker’s primary health care provider to help find an alternate chiropractor or consider other available treatment options in their area.

WorkplaceNL will continue to work towards a satisfactory conclusion with the Newfoundland and Labrador Chiropractic Association.

Injured workers may contact WorkplaceNL at 1.800.563.9000 or 778.1000 for more information or assistance.
