Online Reporting with New MOA

Physicians can now submit MD reports and access payments online. A new fee has been introduced for online reporting. This fee is higher than that paid for paper reports. In order to transition to online reporting, clinics must be registered with WorkplaceNL  connect

Physicians interested in registering with  connect  can call 778.6995 or email  to get started.

For most injured workers, the family physician is the primary care provider, and plays a pivotal role in the worker’s recovery and return to work. In some instances, it is a nurse practitioner.

WorkplaceNL covers the cost of necessary health care investigations, services and treatments to help injured workers recover and return to work.  Family physicians do not need to contact WorkplaceNL for prior approval before referring injured workers to the following health care services: physiotherapy, prescribed drugs, chiropractic treatment, and diagnostic investigations related to the compensable condition. However, the determination regarding the extent of health care entitlement rests with WorkplaceNL.

When a worker consults with a physician following an injury, the physician must submit a Physician's report MD to WorkplaceNL. Through this form, or through a phone call or letter to the workers’ case manager, the physician can arrange:

  • EMG/Nerve Conduction Studies
  • Specialist appointments, including orthopedics, neurosurgery and physiatry;
  • Occupational rehabilitation services;
  • Multi-disciplinary assessment, i.e. the EMPOWER program;
  • Pain management.

The treating physician may also recommend health care devices to assist with rehabilitation, recovery and return to work. They may recommend these devices by using the health care device form.

The expectations and responsibilities of physicians in treating injured workers are outlined in WorkplaceNL’s Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association.

In addition to having a MOA, WorkplaceNL works closely with the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association through a liaison committee. The purpose of this committee is to provide a forum for discussion and resolution of issues related to the provision of medical services to WorkplaceNL.
